The First

World Conference on Untouchability

London, June 2009

It's an outrage. Thanks to religious tradition, 250 million people are born into a category that limits them for life to the lowest levels of society.

In India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Yemen and Nigeria this religion-fueled discrimination continues to cripple lives. Humanists say “enough.” Untouchability must end.

The first step: a conference to examine the problem and decide how to proceed. The First World Conference on Untouchability will take place in London, June 9 and 10 2009, hosted by the International Humanist and Ethical Union.

For centuries, Christians have taken thousands of Bibles to the Third World. It's time for those missionaries to make way for people who will deal more intelligently with this very real social problem. The Humanists are going to take action and work towards the end of untouchability.
