As
Humanists, we freely accept the moral obligation to develop to the
fullest our own natural talents and to reach out to our fellow human
beings needing guidance, comfort, or support. The adjacent tabs "

for you to serve your brothers and sisters within the Humanist
Fellowship of San Diego, and highlight specific, short-term projects of
other community organizations that are requesting our assistance.

President's Call for Volunteers
Rarely a day goes by that I don't read an article in a newspaper or magazine or see a news broadcast on TV that doesn't send shivers up and down my spine. Anti-intellectualism, superstition, and irrationality are splintering our society. These weltanschauungs (if you will permit me to call then such) must be met head-on and logically challenged at every opportunity if we are to preserve our political freedoms and intellectual independence.
The American Constitution and Bill of Rights are unique in history, but not much more than an experiment in the body politic. There is NO GUARANTEE that this experiment must or will succeed. If anything, the tide of History is against us. It literally took thousands of years of war, bloodshed, and personal sacrifice for humankind to establish the rational institutions that we enjoy today. Could it be we are witnessing in our own lifetimes the beginning of the end of the Western tradition? Really... I don’t want to be an alarmist, but on the other hand, we cannot afford to be naïve. Our children will inherit this world, however we leave it to them.
And Change is coming. The critical question is, “Who will be directing that change?”
We have a powerful message that the World needs to hear and it is up to all of us, as Humanists, to spread the word. If we are to accomplish this, and if we are going to have any meaningful impact on our culture, we need to grow as individuals and as an organization. If we are going to grow as an organization, we need more hands. The Good Book says, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” The Good News is… someone has heard the call; the bad news is… they work for the other team.
How about you? You are now hearing the call of a greater message: Humanism! The Humanist Fellowship of San Diego welcomes your help. We are looking for active, dedicated members to serve on committees and on the Board. We would like our active members in the community to recruit friends and neighbors and bring them to the meetings. In short, we need your passion, your dedication, and your vision to build this great organization into a culture-changing, Humanist dynamo!
